The Big 10 needs to...

The fact that their season ends so early is ridiculous and a hindrance in their national rankings as well as their performance in postseason bowl games.  

Using the academic schedule as an outline is a farce and totally irrelevant.  The goal of college is to provide career training and preparation for after schooling and major sports are a totally legitimate and in fact lucrative career choice.  Not only should the football team disregard the parameters of the academic schedule but players should get academic credit for participation.

That's all I got for now on that subject it's an idea that's still in genesis.

Vampires vs. Werewolves.... Rhona Mitra....

Underworld 3:  Rise of the Lycans...

No Kate Beckinsale...  Rhona Mitra instead...  but she won't be playing the same character so it's not that bad.  Instead it's a prequel to the first two Underworlds based in medieeeeevaaaaaaaal tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimes.

(Cable Guy.... what an underrated, before it's time, misunderstood masterpiece of a hilarious film.... Matthew Broderick, Jim Carrey, Jack Black, Owen Wilson, Andy Dick, Judd Apatow's wife, with a classic cameo and directed by Ben Stiller.... KG of Tenacious D fame can also be seen at the end of the film picking up a book as well.... at the time was seen as too dark and in fact actually ruining Jim Carrey's career.  The movie is comedic gold.  Gold, Jerry, Gold!)

The first Underworld was pretty badass but, like was going to become more of a problem in the second, it tended to get bogged down in backstory and politics of the series when all I wanted was shooting, slashing vampire vs. werewolf action.  Well that and to see Kate Beckinsale's hot, slick, bare vampire cooch get slammed by some big beefy werewolf cock.

That being said the first Underworld was good... the second was decent enough.... here's the preview for the third......

I do think Rhona Mitra is better suited than Beckinsale to play a kickass lycan (werewolf) killing vampire, due to her glorious turn in Doomsday... but those bonus points are negated by the fact that the preview is saturated in a Romeo & Juliet nature.....  then again there are alot of familiar faces from the first movie though which is a nice touch.

What it comes down to is it's going to be a movie with a hot chick protagonist in a medieval war between vampires and werewolves..... I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm getting aroused just thinking about it.

Random, Tropic Thunder....

Tropic Thunder is a movie starring Jack Black as well as Ben Stiller.

Tropic Thunder is not a very good movie.  (Yes there is a correlation.)

The only reason to see TT is if you didn't know Tom Cruise and Matthew McConaughey (spelling? but in reality who gives a fuck...) had bigger than just cameo roles... then it would be semi-amusing.  But now you know, so it won't.  Don't worry I just saved you 90 minutes or however long.

As far as the opening statements, I do consider myself a fan of both Ben Stiller and Jack Black and think they are hilarious.... BUT you can't deny the fact that their movies generally suck and never live up to their potential.  Very disappointing.

LESNAR V. COUTURE... SAT. NIGHT....

What's interesting about this fight is that it seems you can find experts on both extremes and everywhere in between... as far as the extremes either Couture is going to toy with Lesnar in the ring OR they legitimately think that Couture's life could be in danger....  Nobody really knows.

Randy Couture comes originally from a collegiate and olympic level wrestling background prior to MMA.  He is also 45, hasn't fought in a year and a half and has a record of 16-8.  I find him to be generally overrated, as he seemed to receive title shots in the past mainly due to his popularity with the fans.  One of the reasons he is so popular though is because he wins the fights that everyone counts him out of.

Brock Lesnar has an extremely prolific NCAA wrestling pedigree and dominated Heavyweight contender and veteran Heath Herring in his last fight.  He will be CUTTING WEIGHT TO MAKE HEAVYWEIGHT and will be looking at around a 50 lb. weight advantage come fight night.  (In MMA the Heavyweight weight class is 206-265 with Super Heavyweight being 265 and up.)  This will also only be his 4th fight in MMA and he is only 1-1 in the UFC.  He definitely does not "deserve" this title shot but is getting it due to his drawing power as a former WWE Superstar and to a lesser extent his freakish athleticism.

Here you can see a good reason why some people are going with Lesnar.  This is the first punch from his fight versus Herring (who by the way is a very dangerous and legitimate opponent, definitely not some chump thrown in there to make Lesnar look good.)  Not only did he effectively pretty much PUNCH HERRING ACROSS THE FUCKING RING but that shot also broke Heath's orbital bone.

HOWEVER if you examine it further you can also actually see why some people are going with Couture as well...  First the punch although effective and delivered right down the pipe isn't the prettiest one in the world and looks a little awkward.  Second as soon as it's evident Herring is hurt, Brock LOSES HIS FUCKING MIND and becomes like a rabid blood crazed dog and appears to attempt to spear or tackle Herring through the cage... not exactly traditional technique.  

This overeager tenaciousness was also seen in his fight against Frank Mir, as Brock put Mir on his back and subsequently became an enraged gorilla dropping all sorts of clubbing Donkey Kong punches on Mir without regard to positioning or technique.  Mir ended up shortly grabbing his leg a couple moments later and forcing Brock to tap with a leg lock.

All that being said in my extremely amateur prediction, I am going with Lesnar.... he's just too big, fast and explosive for Couture being 45 years old and not in the ring for a year and a half... and I think it will be over early.

Ewoks vs. Thunderdome kids.....

Q:  Who's more annoying the Ewoks from Return of the Jedi or the kids from Mad Max 3: Beyond Thunderdome?

A:  No doubt about it....  It's the kids from Thunderdome.  Totally horrible.  Which is interesting because the wolf kid from The Road Warrior was so awesome.  Also, I don't care what anyone says the Ewoks were cool as tits, so suck my balls.

First of all the dumbass Thunderdome kids just kind of show up out of nowhere in the story halfway through the movie and are portrayed as being just too annoyingly precocious.  Not to mention the fact that they even exist makes no sense.  I mean they are never definitive of the timeline but I'm supposed to believe some plane full of babies crashed and then grew up learning to survive in some desert oasis without any adult supervision?  Bullshit.   Honestly the kids are like mostly ages 5-15 and the apocalypse has passed for some time.... the timeline just doesn't work out.  

Plus the witch doctor kid sucks slippery asshole.  The kids also add to a slapstick-y vibe that becomes more evident and begins to permeate the movie.  I mean you go from Max's wife and baby getting run down by a motorcyle in 1.... to women getting raped and people being burned alive and crucified in 2..... to little kids hitting bad guys in the face with pots and pans accompanied with sound effects and comedic reactions.  Ruined the whole vibe of the series.

That being said the Aviator's kid IS hilarious and awesome.  It's amazing they could have such classic kid characters as him and the wolf boy in 2 and miss so incredibly bad with that vomit inducing cutesy pseudo "lost boys" tribe.

Also on a personal note, Jason Statham has replaced Van Damme as my current go to action movie guy.... BUT I just saw Death Race and was extremely let down....  so much promise with the premise but it just was totally unfulfilling....  the original did it so much better.... 

That's not to say that Death Race 2000 was a great movie, Roger Ebert did give it zero stars, but that as a crappy action movie it delivered in boobs and bloodshed... for instance in the new version there is no young Sylvester Stallone, bare boobs, or points for running over pedestrians...  If I had to explain it, I'd say the original was a cross between Running Man and Rollerball...  even though, yes, I am aware that they were both released afterwards... and for the love of shit of course I mean the first Rollerball and not the remake starring LL Cool J and the guy from American Pie that wasn't Stifler, the piefucker or Rookie of The Year.

ALSO also-- Bloodsport and Running Man are two of the greatest action movies of all time... they just don't make them like that any more.

Roy Nelson is a top 15 in the world heavyweight.  He was the heavyweight champ of the IFL until it went under.  He's pretty much known for being "the fat guy" who can fight... if he is known at all.  That doesn't mean he is not a legitimate opponent however as he just hasn't seen the exposure of other fighters.

The fact that this fight is now on the card legitimizes it as far as a true MMA event.... albeit one where the sideshow is the main event, however (Kimbo v. Shamrock.)

I think this movie has the potential to be freaking awesome... first of all you have to realize all the angel/valkyries are hallucinations by drug users; Valkyr is the name of the drug and it is prominently involved in all aspects of the plot...

I think worst case scenario is it's a great looking, highly stylized run of the mill action flick... everything that Wanted was supposed to be (that movie looked fucking retarded by the way, was there even a reason the people had those abilities?  Angelina Jolie always seems to piss me off somehow also.)... 

Shoot 'Em Up killed the genre of the physics defying, bullet time action movie... it's the Scream of action movies.... but Max Payne combining the subgenre with the Sin City presentation style and this added aspect of the drug and it's hallucinations and trying to figure out what is real, I think could make it work.... I'll see it in the theaters....

Bad things are that it's supposed to be PG-13 I think.... that and the fact that it could just be utter dogshit... I'm going to give it a chance though.

Seinfeld/Gates Windows commercials...

Generally I'm a mac guy (got away from it approximately when Jobs left then returned a couple years after he came back) but I love the new Windows commercials with Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld... especially compared to the Mac vs. PC ones that Apple does...

the first one I prefer the long version like the one shown here... for the second one I think the broadcast chopped down, split into two commercials way is much tighter and cuts so that the timing is funnier...

as far as operating systems I have found OS X to be much, much easier when compared to XP... I did install Ubuntu (Linux) on an old PC though and was really impressed with it, as far as ease of install and use....

When you consider the short term for the different advertising campaigns I think Apple has the better one.... but it is infinitely more annoying and ultimately what each is going for in the end is actually pretty different.  Windows is not "selling" anything per se (as opposed to Apple's more direct advertising), but rather just trying to reposition their brand and change that image in the eyes of the consumer.

new Punisher: War Zone preview....

at first I wasn't sure about this one.... but this new trailer is starting to change my mind....  only thing it just doesn't seem to have any hook or anything new to offer.... I mean it's not even special that the character is on the bigscreen, he just was like 5 years ago....  this preview is a step in the right direction though as far as getting me interested....

I originally thought it would be a more realistic take on the Punisher in a real world type setting and not necessarily the new Marvel Movie Universe (too long, MMU from now on) started in Iron Man and Hulk; but with the inclusion of a character like Jigsaw, I think it taking place in the new MMU is now not out of the question.

ALSO: KiD KuDi's mixtape is still badass.... the closest thing I can think of is that he's sounds like pre-Stankonia Outkast, with the same amount of singing Andre 3K does now though....

I'm still concerned she might have saggy Terri Hatcher titties but I'd give me left nut to find out.... (not joking..... as long as I was able to get a prosthetic and freeze some of my boys beforehand just in case; I would actually, literally give my left testicle to bang her.)

As far as Will Ferrell's comeback flick from mediocrity I really think John C. Reilly and Step Brothers are going to do it... needless to say Ferrell's been on a cold streak ever since Talladega Nights and I think this is going to end it....

With Judd Apatow, he and his flicks are definitely on the downswing as well.... however the problem with Pineapple Express is that it doesn't quite look like a straight up comedy and that might throw off the viewing public... as far as being a good movie however I think it (from the little I have seen in the previews) it's going to stretch his standard "guy romantic comedy" formula.... 

of course seeing the cast I am just assuming that this is a Judd Apatow movie... it might not be and I don't even feel like checking... uhh, I think it's going to be a pretty good flick though, more of an actiony-comedy compared to his past straight up comedies....

Iron Man Review....

Saw Iron Man and it was fucking awesome.... now all the reviews I had read had it being the best superhero movie ever and I immediately took that to be blasphemy... but then again when thinking about it and due to the crap that's come out, that title is like winning a gold in the Special Olympics.... 

so yes it is one of the best superhero movies ever, it's competition is really only Batman 1 (generally overrated though) and Batman Begins.  Batman's 2 and 3 were decent as well with 3 being vastly underrated (although nowhere close to the awesomeness of the others on this list) along with 2 not getting the just praise it deserves, but still blowing away 3.  

As far as decent superhero movies the X-Mens and Superman Returns were better than I thought they were going to be and worth watching... ehh once; I wouldn't buy any of them on DVD though or necessarily stop on the channel if they're on cable.  The rest all suck.... not that I don't watch any of them if they're on HBO (not if they are on regular TV with commercials though.)

Now notice I did not say COMIC BOOK movie.  Sin City, 300 and a bunch of others were great flicks.... I am only talking about SUPERHEROES.

As for Iron Man.... Robert Downey Jr. makes the movie.  Listen when I first heard he was cast as Tony Stark, I thought it was a bad move along with the rest of you.... but then I saw that first trailer that I went apeshit over (as previously posted) and began to turn around.... and honestly after seeing the movie no one else could have done better.  Either he took over the movie or the movie was made for him.  

Gwyneth Paltrow actually looks pretty decent as well for the first time in a while.

Also the computer graphics were the best I have ever seen.  There were times when I couldn't figure out whether they were working with an actual live full size prop or with a computer generated one.  Even the times when it obviously had to be CGI it looked realistic (or as realistic as a guy flying around in a suit of armor can be, smartass.)

In conclusion, Iron Man gave me an Iron Hard Boner.
