SLAUGHTERHOUSE - RAP SUPERGROUP, music video....

Slaughterhouse is Joell Ortiz, Joe Budden, Royce Da 5'9" and Crooked I.

This version of the song was also on The Kickdrums mixtape we featured previously on here.

Probably my favorite rap song out right now.

(Video found courtesy of 2dopeboyz)

Joell Ortiz quickly became my favorite MC out there after hearing "125 Part 2 (Fresh Air)" off his album The Brick Bodega Chronicles.... and actually that particular song is probably one of my top 5 rap tracks of all time.

Joe Budden I must admit I only knew from "Pump It Up" but he does have actual skills, the fact which he addresses in this song... and of course Royce Da 5'9" and Crooked I could always spit.

I expect HUGE things out of these guys separately coming up and ESPECIALLY if they keep working together as a group.  Not necessarily in terms of sales or popularity per se; but rather real good, quality music.  Looking forward to it.

We HEART Hockey....

Video taken from a post on With Leather....

An excellent example of why hockey is awesome....  I love the replays and analysis as well.....

I can see what Tootoo was going for with the skating backwards and trying to lure him in for the big right that would actually have done some damage due to the way he stopped his backward motion and transferred his weight... but he ended up just looking like a puss, telegraphing and then missing his big shot and never recovering.

The weight transfer problem and the fighters' not being able to plant their feet and thus be able to twist their hips into their punches is a big part of why fighting is tolerated in hockey and not other dry land sports.  It's just so damn awkward, and really practically impossible when you have the other guy hanging on you as well, to punch properly on skates that the fights end up just being two guys exchanging arm punches (not ON the arm but FROM.)  Consequently most damage sustained from such exchanges is cosmetic at best.

We've been over it before but FWYSO definitely subscribes to the Don Cherry theory on fighting in hockey as it allows the players to police the game themselves and actually leads to a cleaner overall game with less hooking, holding and cheap shots.

Plus there are the fights, which rule.  You tell 'em Grapes, we're with ya!

The NHL constantly trying to take fighting out of the game by making the penalties more drastic not only weakens the quality of the game but also damages what makes the sport unique, known for and popular...  next to the strike it is what is (and has been) killing what was once a much more popular sport.

Tootoo also evidently used to be nailing Kellie Pickler..... as pictured below.....

The Watchmen REVIEW...... for those that have and have not read the book...

When I found out they were actually going to make a movie of The Watchmen I decided to keep away from and try to distance myself from the book in order to try to enjoy the film as a stand alone work.

As such I've attempted to write this review with the first part before the video for those who haven't read the book and for the second part after for those that have.

Tread accordingly.  The first section is spoiler free.

GOOD movie.  As of right now I'd say it was even better than The Wrestler.  (Which I think was a DAMN good movie.)

In case you didn't know the characters were created specifically for the story and there is no timeline or background you need to be aware in order to enjoy the film to it's fullest.  It is a totally self contained work.

It's not a "comic" or "superhero" movie as well if that's what you are expecting it to be.  Certainly it contains those ideas but only as part of the framework for the story.  To attempt to classify it as such or relegate it to that status is a disservice to the film and story.

The opening credits have gotten pretty much universal praise from all over in the media and from the critics.

Highly recommended.

(If the preview doesn't exactly turn you on I don't blame you.... it's kind of blah compared to the actual film.  Here it is anyways.)

Review for those who have read the book-- (or for after you've seen the film)

Too much sex, violence, Nixon and needless exposition.

Ozymandias is supposed to only be human (as are they all minus Dr. Manhattan of course) and the world's smartest man... instead he's throwing and kicking people around like The Hulk.  It takes away from the gravitas of what he is physically able to do later in the film.

The use of actual well known pop music was good at first and drew me into the story and it being "real"... but later became somewhat distracting.  (This is purely my personal opinion and how I felt at that time however.)

The pacing and reveals were off compared to the book I felt as well.  It didn't seem to be able to milk most of the same realizations or "ah-ha" moments to their full potential.

This is due somewhat to the film's insistence of including action scenes that negate and temper those actions and reveals later in the film.  Mainly the one where a plainclothes Nite-Owl and Silk Spectre II get jumped by a gang.  The level of violence they deploy in that scene, specifically Ms. Jupiter, pretty much makes irrelevant Rorschach's transformation later in the film as well as her personal decision as to the level of violence she resorts to in the end (which the results of, as I touched upon earlier in the review, are further taken away from by Ozymandias' Superman-like abilities.

The sex scene ended needlessly cheesy and was long.  This coming from a guy who thinks the addition of bare tits to a movie is always a plus.

Yes they changed the ending.  No it's not totally a disaster.  I actually like and preferred a couple little twists they took with it different from the book, but in the end it suffered by trying too hard to actually make it different.

Still it's about as good as actually making a movie about The Watchmen is going to get.  Recommended.
