Cavs roster.... offseason moves....
CURRENT ROSTER
In the beginning there was Lebron.
Ben Wallace is pretty much un-tradeable due to his contract.
Z, Joe Smith and Damon Jones I would like to hang on to, but if they have to be moved to get a major upgrade and keep LeGod happy (and thus, in town) then so be it. Of the three, Jones is the most likely to go because of his contract.
Wally, Sasha and Andy HAVE to go. Wally is of value to other teams because of his contract ending soon.... Sasha and Andy are young talents and truthfully I used to be both of their biggest fans; but Andy's head is now firmly stuck up his ass and Sasha is just too streaky and would probably benefit from a change of scenery.
Snow is going to retire to be on someone's bench and his value is in his expiring contract.
I don't see them re-signing Devin Brown after Mike Brown bizarrely relegated him to the bench in the Boston series.
Billy Thomas, Lance Allred and Dwayne Jones are all borderline, NBDL talents that just take up roster spots so they don't matter.
COACHING STAFF
Before you even get started Mike Brown stays.
However they have to, HAVE TO, HAVE TO. HAVE. TO. FUCKING. TO. get an offensive assistant coach to set up some semblance of an offense for LeHova.
BUT, believe it or not, there is a drawback to that.
The reason the Cavs were so good on D the year before this one that just ended (when they went to the Finals) was that defense was all they worked on all camp, preseason and year. This year they put some work in on the offense and the D was not as quite as tenacious. Putting in too much work on the offensive side of things they risk losing their defensive acumen and perhaps regressing instead of making a step forward. (As of course everyone knows defense wins championships.)
Even with that being said the offense needs an established coach and time. If just to keep Him happy.
DRAFT
Brandon Rush if he's still available or Chris Douglas-Roberts are really the only two guys Ferry should have on his radar for the first. I'm putting alot of emphasis on wingspan, height and perimeter D with this choice at a swing/SG position.
Trading into the 2nd or hoping he gets undrafted are what they should do with Othello Hunter. The thought here is wingspan and D that they can develop (i.e. put some muscle on) under the aging frontcourt of Z, Joe Smith and Big Ben.
TRADES, FREE AGENCY
Andy, Wally and his contract, and draft picks are the most valuable components the Cavs have to combine in a big name deal. The NBA has rules about trading your draft picks every year and the Cavs have traded a bunch recently so that is not the bottomless well that some think it is, in looking for pieces in a blockbuster deal.
In reality with their current situation they can make one decent sized trade.
Jermaine O'Neal and Michael Redd are the two names thrown about most regarding who the Cavs are, should, and can target in this offseason. Redd is a good player and can hit the open shot, but I just don't think he's the answer. That is the backcourt is not a major need at all. Currently the Cavs have no low post game at all.
Z is slow, on bionic feet, old and scores alot of his points on baseline jumpers and pick and pops. Big Ben has absolutely no offensive game and is a liability. Andy thinks he is much better than he actually is, Wallace is truthfully better on offense because he know he sucks; Andy will keep doing the same dumb shit all game long. Joe Smith can hit the open J, but Brown doesn't play him enough because of his age and lack of defensive acumen; not that great of a true post presence either. Dwayne Jones should be give the Eight Belles treatment.
Therefore if you are going to make one major deal O'Neal or Elton Brand are the answer. You could possibly get these two with the pieces the Cavs have because of their respective injury histories and hope they stay healthy. With this going big with the trade you'd either have to not trade the first round pick and/or keep Sasha (which in further thought I'd actually like to do if possible, just as a stopgap for Delonte, Boobie and #19s growth and development.)
Ron Artest could be had at a discount because he's crazy. I haven't heard much about him, but if people are truly looking for someone to be LeMoses' Pippen he is the only answer. But if you trade for him, you've got to go big in the draft rather than Rush or CDR... Roy Hibbert (who I really hope somehow in Hell drops to the second and the Cavs get him then), DeAndre Jordan, Mareese Speights, or Javale McGee. This is the option that provides the highest possible payoff and ceiling but also the biggest chance to fail, and thus lose Him as well.
MY PREFERENCE:
Get Brand, and draft CDR or Rush. Plus hire an offensive coaching guru. Get rid of Wally and Andy. Trade or buy into the second round for Othello Hunter.
